Breaking news! Edin Dzeko is back on the score sheet at the Olimpico. Mirante keeps a clean sheet for the second consecutive match. El Sharaawy is man of the match, and not for the first time. Roma grabs three vital points and stays in the race for 4th spot. Claudio eventually sees glimpses of a better team.
Having said that, Milan controversial win against Lazio keeps them one point ahead, the biancocelesti now trail 5 behind but have a game in hand against Udinese on Wednesday. Atalanta are a point behind but they play tonight, a win will put them in front on par with Milan. And surprisingly, Torino are now only 4 points behind us! The race is on!
On the other hand, Inter have nearly secured 3rd place unless Roma will manage to bag the three point next week at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. A tough game. Inter are back to winning ways with Icardi, while Spalletti and Nainggolan would be looking to seek revenge. Roma needs to get a point, at least.
The future of the club will heavily depend on Champions League football, and money, next year. The usual suspects including Franco Baldini are in Boston to meet Jim Pallotta to define the future plans, pity Francesco Totti is not part of the expedition. As previously said, I think Baldini should be eventually sidelined, with Totti Football Director, Ricky Massara Sporting Director or someone else, Ranieri in the boardroom with De Rossi part of the new team management.
Daniele would love to play for another year but I fear his knee problems are going to get worse. We all heard the rumours about Antonio Conte or Maurizio Sarri. I personally regard Conte as as top manager, the ideal man to get Roma to the top again. But I doubt he will accept to manage team to rebuild with no financial resources. At the same time, I belong to romantic football, I would rather have a Romanista or someone with no strings attached, rather than someone with Juve blood running through his veins. But it’s only my point of view. Forza Roma.

PROBABILE FORMAZIONE (3-5-2): 1 Musso; 87 De Maio, 5 Troost-Ekong, 3 Samir; 19 Stryger Larsen, 6 Fofana, 38 Mandragora, 10 De Paul, 77 D’Alessandro; 7 Okaka, 15 Lasagna.

One look, one face. One man and his veins. Gladiator. Daniele De Rossi winning goal and immediate celebration was a liberation for everyone. The tackle on the Sampdoria player only seconds to go was epic. If only this team had the same character as Daniele. High hopes.
In the end, Roma gets three vital points and hopes to get a Champions spot next season, with Milan losing, and Lazio and Atalanta dropping points. Roma are now back in contention, only one point behind Milan ands Atalanta with Lazio trailing behind but with one game in hand. But it’s a long way, seven games to go. Seven finals.
However, while we did see a team with some degree of fighting spirit we need to also be realistic. Roma played much better this time but also showed the usual gaps at the back, with the same mistakes and some scary moments. Sampdoria were very close to equalise in injury time, wasn’t for Mirante’s clumsy pass and Quagliarella incredible failure to score. Roma could be on the right track at last, but we need to be aware that this team is so volatile that cannot be trusted.
In the meantime, we definitely enjoy the win hoping the positive trend will continue. On-form Udinese is next game and it will be a tough match. At the same time, Atalanta will host Empoli and Milan v lazio will be fighting against each other. Roma must win or the victory with Samp will be useless. Daniele leads the way! Forza Roma.
We had seen right. After the awful display seen with Napoli, it was legitimate to expect something more against Fiorentina, but not much. And in fact Roma does little more to take a point that is no use for chasing 4th spot.
We have seen a little more in the field but the team shows the same weaknesses. Winning a game from here to the end of the league will not be easy. Everything started from last summer. Confusion of various kinds at club level, some wrong signings, a mental condition and environmental problems that have affected the frame of the whole apparatus.
On the field we have seen the worst for many years now. Now everyone is looking for a scapegoat, looking for a culprit. Which is not there. First it was Di Francesco, then Monchi and Pallotta, and now there are those who have the courage to take it out on poor Ranieri who has only picked up the pieces and is trying in every way to patch up a team. Too easy.
The 10-year American era saw an endless list of coaches, managers and players. Yet, lack of continuity. Pallotta’s decision to hand Totti the main keys is a sensible but also a clever move by the President. But that’s okay. With Totti in charge, Franco Baldini must necessarily leave the scene.
It would not be wrong to start from the Romans and Romanistas, which will not mean winning but at least bringing back some normality, that sense of belonging and who knows bring people back to the stadium. And then, if Qatar Airways really could buy the club with the stadium package, who knows, we could be at another turnaround. Forza Roma.

A year ago Roma beat Barcelona to enter the Champions League semifinals. Today we don’t even know if will succeed in winning a single game from here to the end of the league. They don’t fight and they don’t run. This is since the beginning of the season last August. So many embarassments since. We remember Chievo, Atalanta, Bologna, then Spal, Udinese, Cagliari, ending with many other indecent performances ending with the disgraceful 7-1 in Florence.
The team is in pieces, mentally and physically. Now everyone’s looking for a scapegoat. On one side, there are the legitimate expectations of the Roma fans, against the reality of things, and everything that revolves around the Roma world. The fans spit sentences and judgments according to the situations. In the end we are always looking for a culprit. Until three weeks ago Di Francesco was the evil of everything, formation, changes, choices. He was not good enough for Roma, he could only coach in Sassuolo, it was said.
Then Monchi, the cashier of Seville who is said to have dismantled the team, bad buys, only interested in making capital gains. Then we saw him leaving the sinking ship. So they say. Then, Ranieri the Messiah arrives, all to acclaim Romanismo and the “normalization of things”, welcome back Claudio. Now, after 3 games we hear people throwing the cross on Ranieri, he is old, inadequate, retired, he only knows how to play “catenaccio”.
Cannot blame Claudio, in the face of this we raise our hands. That Di Francesco was sent away to give a shock, we all agreed. Even if now it’s even worse. All right Ranieri, a Romanista to try to normalize things, we agreed also here, but knowing that he could not work miracles. So, we must stop here. Guys, this is Roma this year, not just now. So you have to start from afar to understand a little better.
The 10-year American era saw the exit of Montella and the entry of Luis Enrique, all the way up to Ranieri, passing through Zeman, Rudi Garcia, Andreazzoli, Spalletti and Di Francesco. A myriad of players, collaborators, managers, fitness trainers, marketing gurus and so on. An endless list. This is because Pallotta entrusted himself to his main contact, someone living between London and South Africa. Pallotta does not understand anything about football, and it is right for him to delegate and rely on those who should understand it to carry out the “project”.
Whether he came here to do business and for the stadium we all agree. Lawful and understandable, we cannot expect him to be like Dino Viola or Franco Sensi. But is there anyone else who wants to take it, I don’t know, some old dodgy building developers in Rome or some wild filmakers at Sampdoria? We would certainly be in better hands. sure. Or maybe Mr. Pallotta is just waiting for the definitive go-ahead for the construction of the stadium, with Qatar Airways ready to take over everything? Mind you, the recent trip of totti and co. to Doha is quite significant.
The truth is that ranting is the fault of this or that is of little use at this time. We would stay here for hours and hours talking about Monchi or Pallotta, or anyone. The truth comes from afar. What Pallotta needs to do is to stop trusting those who have chosen strange philosophies and strategies so far, those who have continued to change almost always wrongly. Big Franco is always there, in between a book by Paulo Coelho, walking around Hyde Park or sorting out coffee machines in Cape Town. This is Baldini, a different man from the fighting one of the Franco Sensi era.
He was fascinated by a different but football utopia, that cannot exist in the world of football. He was wrong and continues to do it. It can’t be him who continues to decide. Here, now is the time for change in this regard. It’s time to sit around the table only with Totti and De Rossi, and cut all the others out of the discussion. Now, not in June, Champions League or Europa League, regardless. Plan now. Totti said it, he is ready. It must have all the powers to reorganize the technical part.
With the new Technical Director in place, bring back Bruno Conti with maybe Claudio Ranieri behind the scenes, and a Sporting Director that only buys players chosen by the future coach. With a clear and transparent strategy in front of the fans. That coach could be Daniele De Rossi, a suggestive solution for the moment, especially if the team will be downsized, perhaps initially supported by someone on the bench. Contract for the next 5 years, for all of them, need continuity regardless. Few heads to decide, but normal heads, with Roma hearts.
Pallotta and Baldissoni must think only of building the new stadium, and if they manage to do so, hoping that it is not only for the rich, that it is a stadium for 60,000 and that it has two Curva stands at accessible prices. Let’s not make another mistake, it would be wrong for the city and the people, or Pallotta might end up sitting in the stands alone with all his friends in question. Forza Roma.
