Cercasi punte disperatamente.
Another Roma surprise, only a few days since the Barcelona game. Wrong approach. Very bad defending and poor finish in the first half. Positive in the second half with lots of chances created but just unable to score. Another shocking defeat.
This team is just not reliable, we do not know anymore what is the real potential, if some players are good or just average. One thing is for certain: Edin Dzeko is the only player showing consistency, apart from the keeper.
Di Francesco must be thinking what is going on, why we keep seeing a mixed of good and poor display. Why aren’t some players up to their standard anymore? Why we let the opposition capitalise from every mistake we make and we do not do the same.
Barcelona took six shots and scored four. Fiorentina took three shots and scored two. Over the two games Roma created about fifteen chances to score just a mere goal.
On Tuesday Roma will take on Barcelona again, under what conditions? On Sunday, the Rome Derby. This is the most important week of all, might fail the first but cannot fail the second. Last chance. Always Forza Roma.
Like William Wallace, the Scottish warrior, Edin Dzeko is the Roma hero of the night, scoring the winner that sends Roma to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Edin like his teammates fought like a brave on the pitch, showing the right attitude from the start, all went on to believe Roma could not miss this massive opportunity.
It was a tough match, as expected. Shakhtar are a good team, but despite having longer ball possession they never threatened our keeper. But yes, we all dreaded the last five minutes; Roma had to resist until the very dying seconds before celebrating with the fans. It was frantic.
So, happy days in the end, against all odds Roma are in the last eight, first time since 2008. A massive achievement. Zero goals conceded at the Stadio Olimpico during the whole campaign. Most credit goes to Alisson Becker, but also to Di Francesco and all his men last night, including Bruno Peres with that last gasp save in Karkhiv.
Get this. Our Champions League does not finish here, this is not over yet, whatever happens in next round. We must believe we are going to the semis, no matter what comes along at the draw on Friday. We are going to Kiev! And if we aren’t then be it. But first, Crotone on Sunday. Believe! Daje Roma!
Here we are, it’s the end of 2017. Disappointing results between Christmas and New Years Eve, once again against Sassuolo the team showed lack of some mental fitness and physical strength; VAR and two goals disallowed, lots of debatable issues, with Dzeko and Schick at the very centre of the debate.
Roma were just incapable of wrapping up the match, pity to lose points like this, lost more ground against Juve and Napoli, but this Roma team has potential, we are convinced, we’ll bounce back!
AS Roma Ireland – Roma Club Dublin wishes Carlo Zampa-Popolo Giallorosso and all our readers a healthy and prosperous 2018. Daje Roma!
Di Francesco thought even Team B could qualify Roma for the next round, but reality showed a different outcome. Too many changes at the back did not pay off. A complete new defense backline with Jesus and Moreno in the centre, Peres and Emerson on the wings, but they did not impress, especially in the first half.
In the midfield and forward things went sligtly better, with EL Sharaawy very active and unlucky not to score, lethal was that incredible strike to hit the crossbar..Schick worked ahard but did not shine even as a centreforward, and Cengiz on the wing did not sting. Gerson, Gonalons and Strootman looked overwhelmed by the Torino counterparts in the midlle of the park, things were not going to improve unless something changed.
An in fact, the second half was quite different with Perotti, Pellegrini and Dzeko on, but the Bosnian missed a crucial penalty that could take Roma back on track. Why did Perotti not take that is a mystery. Roma had several opportunities to score, eventually Roma grabbing one back with Schick’s first goal, but it was too late..The Torino sub-keeper was superb, the brother of Lazio’s midfielder Milinkovic-Savic, of course.
So, Roma are knocked out the Italian Cup, pity, a wasted opportunity to win a trophy missing now for 10 years. No time to get low, with the Juve clash only two days away. Head up, we must bounce back, we expect a great performance regardless, hoping for a great Christmas present.
Daje Roma! #DublinRomanista
Six minutes of injury time and two more of the VAR. A heart-stopping ending, Roma could not unlock the Cagliari defense, a penalty badly wasted by Perotti after the VAR intervention. Then, so much effort but Roma could not create decent chances, a sterile maneuvering, so much confusion, a game plan that did not work.
When it seemed too late here it came, the last gasp of Commander Fazio in full injury time. So muhj joy that quickly disappeared with another VAR intervention. The referee stops the stadium’s enthusiasm. Suspense, like in a movie. “Now they will find a foul, a push, an arm ..” Then the confirmation: goal validated, the stadium jubilant again for the second time, a liberating scream, stuff not really suitable for the faint-hearted..
The danger of another draw dismissed. But Roma did not look good during construction phase, from midfield upwards. Instead, well the defense that does not concede goals, almost never in gtrouble, Cagliari has never even come close to our half. Midfield and attack, not a good display. The Dzeko-Schick pair did not work, Edin is not in shape, Patrik is not ready yet tactically. So much confusion between the twos.
If the three points had not arrived there would be an open trial and a lot of criticism for yet another draw and the team that does not perform as good as up until recently. But the three points have arrived, thank goodness, no controversy then, now we need to stay cool and be patient, continue to support this group that is doing very well. Now head to Torino in the Italian Cup. We must win to go though, winning the Italian Cup must be a real objective. Then we will think about Juventus..Daje and Forza Roma!
As against Genoa, we are angry for having lost two more points, so many unexploited opportunities and the miracles of “Saint Sorrentino” on goal, the Chievo keeper, superb today but conceded five against Inter last week.. Juventus and Inter, with Napoli drawing as well today, this it was a golden opportunity to get under it, to put pressure on the leading pack… at least everything remains unchanged, thank goodness, we have not lost ground.
Apart from the great vein of the goalkeeper of Chievo, we must also say that Roma has not capitalised the many opportunities, too many mistakes and also a lot of bad luck with Schick debuting from the start, then Gerson, El Sharaawy and Kolarov, with Cengiz, Perotti and Dzeko coming on in the second half. Edin has confirmed is not exactly in the best of the form, a couple of incredible opportunities he did not take. And anyway, luck has not smiled at Roma today, really unlucky for the many occasions created. Pity..
Tomorrow the Champions League draw, then Cagliari arrives at the Olimpico. We can not make mistakes anymore. Opportunity to pay homage to Lando Fiorini, a great Romanista singer. Today many chants for him from the Roman legion in the Bentegodi stadium in Verona. “We have a big heart, half yellow and half red”. Goodbye Lando, a true Roman but even more, a true romanista!
Sorry about the delay. Just back from London. Exhausted but revived, a pile of mixed feelings after two days in the English Capital; the beautiful atmosphere, the fans, the expectations before the game, then the game itself. Whatever happened at Stamford Bridge, we can be proud , whatever the result. Of course, Roma did not start as favourite, not much expectations, hardly anyone could foresee Roma getting much out of this one. For us, the trip was more about the “craic”. as they say in this part of the world. And rightly so.
A bright start, then the usual story, one mistake in dfense, capital punishment by David Luiz first, then Eddie Hazard. Two-nil down. Then a light is shed by Aleksander Kolarov, a solo slalom with a rocking ball behind the Chelsea keeper. 2-1. Hope. Roma played better then Chelsea until now, so unfairly down on the scoreline. Second half: We all expect some Chelsea raging-reaction to put the game beyond doubt, instead Roma starts again even brighter, dominating the opposition all over the pitch. Edin Dzeko, the real superstar here scoring two fantastic goals that send the Roma crowd in heaven. 2-3!
Later, another one near certain, a header that incredibly goes wide! it could wrapped up the game for Roma. 2-4? Nope. Instead another silly mistake allows Hazard to equalise. 3-3. Maybe a lost opportunity to seal victory and nearly secure second place in the group but also a great display to remember, a reminder that this Roma team can actually compete. In the meantime, Qarabag incredible draw against Atletico is another enexpected big help. We can do it! Next, Torino away. If we show this character anything is possible. Daje Roma!
