Roma-Chievo 4-1 “In the name of Sean”

Roma beat Chievo in style. 4-1 with Alisson saving a penalty and Juan Jesus sent off. A great match display in preparation for the second leg of the semifinal of the Champions League against Liverpool.

Our club closed its gates as mark of respect for what happened in Liverpool, where Sean Cox was brutally assaulted, still fighting for his life.  We were contacted by several media to do with the case, Sean is irish and a big Liverpool fan like many over here. But he’s not a hooligan.

We set up a bank account trying to raise funds and help the group Irish Liverpool Reds who have set up a Go Fund to help Sean and his family.  Over €60,000 has been raised so far.

Whatever happened in Liverpool is to condemn, regardless of the name, colour or nationality of the perpetrators. We know there are reports about bad police organisation, and italians who complain they have been exposed and attacked beforehand. All facts, yes. But that is not the point.

A group of thugs went on a mission. This is nothing to do with the beautiful game, we don’t really care who attacked first or after or whatever else. Any decent football fan goes to the stadium to watch football and instead now we have Sean left fighting for his life. For a football game?  No, thanks.
