Roma 2-1 Parma ‘New model army’

Roma rise again. Although not all problems are solved. But in the meantime it was important to win, you had to get points to stay in the running for fifth place, for Fonseca who keeps his place, and for us fans, now with morale under the heels. The team played much better, but it was impossible to do worse. They created and dominated despite the absences. Re-modelled and re-assembled by Fonseca, but it’s a kind of gamble reshuffle. Cristante behind with three at the back, Peres instead of Zappacosta, Diawara in the middle, with Kluivert taken out and Cengiz now on the sidelines.

With Edin and Michi, the only ones firmly there upfront, with the Armenian who continues to score, together with Veretout’s fab shot who grabs the victory for Roma. For the rest, I have seen lots of good fighting spirit and determination, which is already something these days. The team created many opportunities but wasted a lot, too much. Those of Ibanez and Villar are just incredible at this level, they pay the inexperience, but judging them now at 20 would be excessive.

However, too many mistakes remain. Too may players out there who lack the quality, too many crosses, wrong passes and shots, a lot of confusion with basic game geometry. And the refereeing, many errors, this time in our favor. Parma’s penalty seems genuine, Cristante is naive and lets himself pass, the foul is there. As it is clear as bells Mancini’s touch of arm, evident to everyone except the referee and the Var. But this time Roma dominated the field and eventually won with merit. Parma did very little. Not winning this game would have been another blow. Now, head to Brescia. Forza Roma.
