Roma-Chievo 2-2 “Upside Down”

What we did not want to happen, but It did happen. In a comfortable 2-0 lead Roma suddenly drops down and let go, inexplicably. De Rossi entered the field in the second half and the sudden change of formation was hoping to bring the right adjustments, experience and more security. Instead it got worse, with the team crumbling in a matter of minutes. Chievo equelizer was an alarm bell, but went unnoticed when it went on to score again in a crazy scramble to get a point. Olsen saved us from a mockery to say the least in the dying seconds, when the ball was going in the keeper slap kept it over the bar. A further drama avoided fortunately.

Overcoming a Chievo side so was not a big problem but ordinary administration. You had the game in hand, a good first half played by Roma, ahead of two goals, all simple, no danger in sight. So, wjhat happened? Let’s leave Pallotta, Monchi and the transfer market aside for a moment. In our opinion the problem here is technical and tactical. Players and coach. Preparation and motivation. Fitness and stamina. Concentration and determination. That’s all. All you needed was to play the same ordinary game as Roma played in the first half.

Apart from the newcomers, we want to talk about the performance of those experienced players since the beginning of the season.  The veterans Kolarov, Fazio, Manolas and now also Dzeko? Where did they go? Defense in tatters, missed easy opportunities, no personality, lots of mistakes. No running, no tackling, no confidence.  The Roma fan is disappointed and angry. As right it is. The chance thrown away in this way is really unforgivable. We had said it. This match was crucial to win for the rest of the season. For the fans, for the team. And to remain clinging to the head of the standings.

We are only at match-day four but it seems all going uphill, almost compromised. But is not so. The championship is long, very long, for everyone, not just for Roma. The important thing is to hold on close to the head of the table, at the end of December-January. Of course, if you continue like this, you will not catch up on Juve, but neither Inter or Napoli will keep up at the pace with Juventus. Especially the great Inter, the anti-Juve as some called it. If this Roma team is rubbish what they should say the Inter fans of their own? Only 4 points so far. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Forza Roma
